Planning a safari to Tanzania is no small feat and if you’ve landed on TAASA Lodges & Camps as part of your itinerary, you’re already on the right track. With two distinct experiences – TAASA Lodge and TAASA Migration Camp – it helps to understand what makes each one special.
The good news is that both offer unforgettable, complementary experiences that showcase the Serengeti in entirely unique ways. Whether you’re a first-time safari-goer, a seasoned traveler, or planning a family adventure, this guide will help you understand what each camp offers and why the best answer is actually both.
TAASA Lodge is a permanent safari lodge perched on a scenic ridge in a wildlife management area bordering the Northern Serengeti (5km from the northern gate). Its location offers sweeping views, exceptional privacy and exclusive access to activities which can only take place there. It’s a peaceful and luxurious base with incredible game viewing right on its doorstep.
TAASA Migration Camp is a mobile luxury camp that moves with the rhythm of the Great Migration. By relocating three times a year across the Serengeti, the camp moves with the herds to keep guests close to the most exciting wildlife moments of each season.
Whether you’re drawn to the exclusivity of a permanent camp or the thrill of following the herds across iconic landscapes, TAASA offers both and each tells a different part of the Serengeti’s story.
TAASA Migration Camp operates seasonally. From July to October, it’s based in Kogatende in the northern Serengeti which is the ideal spot to witness the dramatic Mara River crossings. During the Green Season, from December to March, the camp moves south to Ndutu, where thousands of wildebeest calves are born on the lush plains. Then, from May to June, it settles in the Central Serengeti region for the shoulder season. A quieter but equally rewarding time when the landscape is vibrant and wildlife sightings are rich.
TAASA Lodge is open year-round and located in a game-rich area that sees a consistent flow of resident wildlife activity regardless of the season. It’s also the perfect spot to add on a day trip to try to spot a crossing at the nearby Mara River during your stay due to it being located only 1 hour from the Mara River and Kenyan border.
At TAASA Lodge, the private concession offers a unique level of freedom and exclusivity when it comes to safari activities. Guests can venture out on night game drives, track animals off-road, or explore the landscape on short nature walks. These experiences are not permitted in most national parks. The lodge also offers rich cultural immersion through visits to a local Maasai village Ololosokwan, whereby over 70% of the TAASA Lodge team come from.
At TAASA Migration Camp, the focus is on positioning guests in the heart of the Great Migration. With game drives in key migration corridors, guests witness unforgettable wildlife moments, from river crossings teeming with tension to close-up scenes of predator-prey drama playing out on the plains. Due to this location it is also very common to be woken up before sunrise by the hooves and calls of hundreds of wildebeest passing through the camp!
Across both, you’ll enjoy the magic of TAASA Moments: thoughtful, curated experiences that elevate your safari. Whether it’s a bush breakfast surrounded by open plains or a boma dinner lit by firelight and stars, these are the moments that linger long after you’ve left.
TAASA is proudly family-friendly, and both the Lodge and Migration Camp cater to guests of all ages. Interconnecting family tents, kid-friendly meals and flexible activities make it easy for parents to relax while the little ones soak in the adventure.
What sets TAASA apart is the sense of connection, not just to nature, but to each other. A TAASA safari is the kind of trip that becomes part of your most cherished family memories.
A visit to TAASA isn’t a quick stop and it shouldn’t be. For first time visitors to, both TAASA Lodge and TAASA Migration Camp are best experienced as part of a thoughtfully crafted 10–14 day itinerary through Tanzania. Whether you’re pairing your stay with Tarangire, Ngorongoro, or Zanzibar, TAASA fits beautifully into a broader journey. And when you combine both properties, you get the best of both worlds. Based on a majority of our return clients preferences, a 7 day safari exclusively with TAASA properties is always a winner!
The honest answer is you can’t go wrong with either. Both offer luxurious stays, incredible wildlife experiences, and unforgettable moments. But together they offer a complete Serengeti story, one that moves with the land and leaves a lasting mark on you.
