A safari with TAASA is about far more than game drives, luxury tents, and Serengeti sunsets. When you travel with TAASA, you’re becoming part of something bigger than yourself. Something rooted in people, place, and purpose.

Nestled in northern Tanzania, Ololosokwan is a small Maasai village where daily life is grounded in tradition, family, and community. It’s also where most of the TAASA team originally come from, currently live and raise their families. In fact, around 70 to 75% of the people at TAASA Lodge who welcome you, guide you, and share their African tales around the campfire come from this very community.
At the heart of TAASA is a powerful mission: Empower. Protect. Explore. These three simple words guide every decision, every initiative and every partnership.
At TAASA, empowerment is rooted in creating meaningful opportunities for the local community. Through employment, skills development, and support, we aim to create lasting impact. TAASA supports women in leadership, celebrates female guides, and sources artwork and goods directly from local artisans, including jewellery made by widowed women and people living with disabilities in Tanzania. By investing in real people, we aim to uplift not just individuals but entire communities.
Protection means recognizing that the landscapes we operate in are delicate ecosystems, where flora, fauna and local communities are all closely connected. Our FGASA-certified guides help educate guests on the importance of conservation, and we’re always looking for thoughtful ways to tread more lightly on the land.
Explore means opening your heart to new cultures, perspectives, and experiences. Whether visiting a nearby village, engaging with local artisans, or learning about Maasai traditions firsthand, every interaction is an opportunity to connect. We encourage our guests to embrace their spirit of adventure and approach each moment with curiosity and immerse themselves in local culture.

Since 2020, TAASA has been working closely with Explore With Purpose, a non-profit that helps connect meaningful travel with real-world impact. Alongside Explore With Purpose, our guests and travel partners, we’ve raised over $300,000 to support the neighboring communities of Ololosokwan and Mairowa.
That funding has built new classrooms and dormitories, refurbished cafeterias, provided access to clean water, school supplies, medical resources, and housing for teachers. It’s helped girls return to school. It’s helped the Ololosokwan and Mairowa communities grow stronger.
Over the years, many guests have taken the time to visit schools, meet with village leaders, and see the impact firsthand. Some have chosen to support specific projects that resonated with them. Others have simply listened, connected, and taken those stories home.
One of the newest and most inspiring initiatives to come out of our partnership with Explore With Purpose is the EWP-4K program. This kids’ project was designed to give young changemakers a chance to make a real difference.
Whether they’ve been on safari and seen the impact firsthand, or are getting involved from their own community somewhere else in the world, the program helps children understand the value of giving. Through creative ideas, storytelling, and simple acts of kindness, they’re discovering that even at a young age, they have the power to create change.

At TAASA, we believe in travel that leaves you changed and leaves the places you visit better than you found them. Whether you’re sipping coffee with a Maasai guide, browsing handmade beaded jewellery that directly supports local women, or visiting a school funded in part by previous guests just like you, every moment at TAASA carries meaning.
To everyone who has travelled with us and supported our work, thank you. You’ve helped change lives in Ololosokwan and Mairowa. And even if you haven’t visited TAASA yet, you can still be part of that story. Explore how you can support the communities of Ololosokwan and Mairowa by visiting www.explorewpurpose.com
