Every year, more than a million wildebeest begin a journey that has shaped the Serengeti for centuries. Drawn by the rain and the promise of fresh grass, they move through Tanzania and Kenya in an endless circle that covers nearly three thousand kilometres. It is the largest overland migration on Earth, a rhythm that has remained almost unchanged for as long as the land itself has existed in its current form.
The wildebeest travel with zebra, gazelle, and a whole chain of predators that depend on their movement. Lions and cheetahs stalk the herds across open plains. Hyenas follow at night, patient and organized. Crocodiles lie in wait in the Mara and Grumeti Rivers, ready for the crossings that test both instinct and endurance. Every animal plays a role. Every season brings its own balance between life and loss.

The Great Migration is not a single event but a continuous cycle. When the rains fall in the south between December and March, the Ndutu region becomes a nursery. Tens of thousands of calves are born within weeks, and the plains fill with new life. By May and June, as the grass begins to dry, the herds drift north through the Mosabi Plains and Mareu, shadowed by predators and birds of prey. In July they reach Kogatende, where the Mara River crossings bring moments of high drama and extraordinary tension. Once the rains return, the journey begins again. This is nature’s oldest story, playing out on one of its grandest stages.
To truly follow the migration, you need to move with it and TAASA Migration Camp does exactly that. The camp shifts between Ndutu, Mosabi Plains and Mareu and Kogatende through the year, always positioning guests close to the herds. You wake to the sound of wildebeest outside your tent. Game drives are unhurried, and there’s a sense of space that allows you to take in the landscape at your own pace. Because the camp adapts to the seasons there’s never a bad time to visit. In Ndutu, you’ll see new life on the plains, in the central Serengeti you’ll witness predators and prey prepare for the journey ahead and in Kogatende, you’ll watch nature at its most raw as herds challenge the Mara River’s powerful currents. Even in quieter months, wildlife viewing remains exceptional, and the experience often comes with fewer crowds and better value.

TAASA Migration Camp is designed to travel lightly across the Serengeti without ever compromising on comfort. Each tented suite is spacious and beautifully furnished, complete with en-suite bathrooms and inviting lounge areas where you can unwind after a day on safari.
The camp includes a dining tent, lounge and bar, and an outdoor firepit where stories are shared under the stars. Meals are freshly prepared by our chefs, combining local ingredients with international favorites. It’s a relaxed, welcoming environment that still feels distinctly luxurious.
Despite being mobile, the camp is fully serviced and family friendly. Families can book adjoining tents, and children are welcome to experience the magic of the migration firsthand.
Each day at TAASA Migration Camp unfolds to the rhythm of the wild. Morning game drives set out just after sunrise, when the light is soft and the plains are most active. Guided by experts who know the terrain intimately, you’ll follow the migration’s path, watch predators on the move and see the landscape change hour by hour.
Afternoons are slower. Take time to relax in the lounge tent, drink in the view from your veranda, or share stories by the fire before heading out again as the sun begins to set. Sunset drives often end with sundowners in the bush, the air filled with birdsong and the sound of distant herds.
No two days are the same. One morning might bring a river crossing; another, a lioness teaching her cubs to hunt. It’s an unfiltered safari experience, made more personal by TAASA’s small group sizes and attentive guiding team. Beyond the safari, guests enjoy unique TAASA moments throughout their safari.

The Great Migration is often called the greatest show on Earth and with good reason. To stand before thousands of wildebeest and zebra moving as one is to see instinct in its purest form. Each step follows ancient paths carved into the landscape by generations that came before, an endless circle of life that keeps the Serengeti alive.
At TAASA Migration Camp, you’re right where it happens! Close enough to hear the rhythm of hooves and see predators watching from the distance. This is the Serengeti at its most real and alive and a visit should be on everyone’s bucket list.
